Introducing the first Adult synchro team in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands currently has only one synchro team in the Adult category. Meet Team Dejavu! and find out how this team was created.

"The name is based on the skating memories we have together. Almost all the skaters knew each other from skating in the past en quit because of study, work or starting a family. Coming back on the ice together after all those years was like a "Dejavu!" That’s why we are Team Dejavu!" said the skaters.

The team was created 3 years ago. Daniëlle and Myrthe, captains of the team knew each other from skating in their childhood and stayed friends after quitting. "We both missed skating, and therefore we thought about setting up a new team. We texted a lot of former teammates to ask if they would like to join a new Adult team and almost everyone was very interested. One year later, team Dejavu was born, and it was one big reunion on the ice," they continued.

Team Dejavu!'s coach is Daniëlle Merkx-Spijkers. She skated for many years as a Senior skater for the Netherlands. "She was the founder and former coach of team Ice United Senior, and many years a synchro coach in Belgium also. Now she is a synchro coach in our club for the Mixed Age and Adult team."

In the upcoming season, Team Dejavu! will have 17 skaters, "and still places left if you like to join us," they said. The team comprises skaters from the recreational level until skaters who skated at ISU Worlds senior from Netherlands and Belgium.

Last season, the team competed for the first time in Neuss, Germany. For 2023/24, the aim is to participate in a national event. "We haven't decided yet which one, but going on a weekend abroad with the team would be so much fun. We think about competition in Gdansk or Budapest and, of course, have a lot of fun during our regular training and yearly team building day. Because that's the most important reason for all skaters to join team Dejavu: to have lots of fun!"

Team Dejavu! is still the only Adult team in the Netherlands. "We hope there will be more Adult teams to support and compete with in the upcoming years!"
