This weekend was held the traditional SwissCup in Widnau, Canton St. Gallen. 33 teams from all over Switzerland, but also from Germany and Italy were competing over the two days. On Saturday, the Adult, Juvenile and Mixed Age categories opened the competition.
In the Adult category, Cool Dreams Crystals delivered a clean and emotional long program. Despite a small fall, the team took first place with 37.98 points. With 33.00 points, Team Passion won the silver medal. And finally, it was the Red Sunshine team, coming straight from Munich, Germany, who completed this podium winning the bronze title.
Two teams were competing in Juvenile and the scores were very tight! Indeed, the Starlight Juveniles won the competition with 21.63 points, followed closely by the Cool Dreams Juvenile with 20.38 points.
Mixed Age was the biggest division of the day with 9 teams competing. As usual, the Snowflakes took the gold with 57.29 points. The Italian Olimpia Team finished second (45.01 points) and Team Bernettes third (44.18 points).
On Sunday, it was the turn of Novice Basic and Senior B to compete. Novice A, Senior ISU and Junior ISU also skated on Sunday because this competition was for them the Swiss national championships!
The Novice Basic category entered 7 teams, and it was the Italian Olimpia Team who were the best with 28.26 points. The skaters from Como were skating to the theme of winter. They were closely followed by their compatriots Frost Fairies who performed their program to the music of "The Artist" (25.89 points). The 3rd place went to the Flowers team from Thun (25.10 points).
The Starlight Senior won the competition in the Senior B category with 66.78 points. The Cool Dreams Royals followed them closely with 65.16 points. Despite a very good interpretation of their program to the theme of the forest, this was not enough to win. Team Saphire from Basel placed third thanks to their very good program on music "The Jailhouse Rock".
The Swiss Championships started with the Novice Advanced category. The Zürich Starlight Novice entered the ice first. The young skaters performed a very clean program to the movie "The Greatest Showman" (47.82 points). Then, it was the turn of the Cool Dreams Novice from Burgdorf to get on the ice and present their program to the theme of the "Little Witch". The skaters showed a very clean, energetic and creative program that allowed them to score a total of 47.85 points, winning the title of Swiss Champions!
The Cool Dreams Juniors and the Starlights Seniors were also present as the only representative in their respective categories. For them, this day was more like the last dress rehearsal before the World Championships.
The Juniors began with their African short program. A clean program skated with a lot of energy that allowed them to pass the 51-point mark. Their long program, to the theme of the Oscars, was also fluid and safe. They received a total of 79.04 points for the long program. With a total of 130.80, we can only be delighted to see this team fighting alongside the best teams in the world in Neuchâtel in two weeks!
On the Senior division, the Starlight, having qualified for Helsinki last week at the Spring Cup, presented a short program with some imperfections and a fall, scoring 39.07 points. With their free program "Survivor", the team earned a total of 118.19 points. The team has now a few weeks before competing with the synchronized skating elite in a month in Finland.
