Synchro history in Russia

rn

Synchronized skating appeared in Russia in early 90’s. The first teams started in Moscow, Samara and Lipetsk (see map). However, soon in Moscow this discipline disappeared, but in other cities of Russia, this sport continued to develop. Soon teams appeared in Kazan, then in St. Petersburg and Pervouralsk. In late 90’s the teams were born in Ekaterinburg and Novouralsk.

In the early 2000s, a new team in Chelyabinsk was founded and synchronized skating in Moscow re-emerged. In the 2010s, a lot of new teams in the Ural, Siberia and the European part of Russia appeared. Today in Russia there are about 70 teams, which compete in senior, junior, advanced novice and basic novice category.

And about the competitions and teams?

rn

First competition in Russia was held in 1991 in Moscow. 8 teams took part at this event and they competed only in free skating.

rn

In the Senior category, Moscow representatives took leading position at first. After that, the team from Samara was the Champion for 3 years in a row. Then, the team from Lipetsk once won National and after that Samara team again was the Champion during 3 years. Since 1999 Team Paradise has been the permanent leader in senior in Russia. Second and third places have been Team Tatarstan from Kazan and “Dream Team” from Samara so far.

rn

Among the Junior teams, Yunost from Ekaterinburg has become the national Champion every year since 2002. Other leaders are Crystal Ice from Moscow, Idel from Kazan and Sunrise-1 from Saint-Petersburg.

rn

In the Novice teams, there isn’t a single leader. For a long time team from Ekaterinburg was the champion, but over the last years, serious rivals have appeared, such as teams from Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Tolyatti and Volzhsk.
