Second stage of the "Gran Premio Italia": and the winners are...

Last weekend, Italian teams competed in the second stage of the first "Gran Premio Italia". Team Hot Shivers and Team Ice on Fire won respectively in the Junior and Senior division.rn

OnrnFebruary 28th, the second stage of the "Gran Premio Italia" took placernin Aosta, Italy.

Italian teams from Senior and Junior divisions had once againrnthe chance to compete and show their programs to a live panel of judges.

rnrnTherncompetition was held in one single day and followed very strict rules inrnorder to assure the safety of everyone. Every skater was testedrnfor Covid-19 a few days before, no public was allowed, and both athletes andrnstaff had to wear a mask inside the rink.

Unfortunately, the increasing of Covid-19 cases in Italy made the preparation for thisrncompetition particularly difficult for some teams.

"For this event, we weren't as ready as we would have wanted and some major problems didn'trnallow us to keep up with our schedule," said Team Hot Shivers.

"Duringrntraining, we always have to wear masks and that was quite hard," explainedrnTeam Shining Blades from Milan.

Howeverrnthe competition was a success and all four teams managed to participate.rn

"We are very grateful to the Italian Federation (FISG) for organizing thisrnevent and allowing us to compete in total safety," said Team Ice on Firernfrom Trento.

Junior

Despiternthe falls, Team Hot Shivers took the lead after the short program. They skatedrnto "The Greatest Showman" soundtrack and obtained 38.39 points.

TeamrnShining Blades, instead, presented a more epic themed program to the songrn"Dance for me Wallis" by Abel Korzeniowski and earned 21.58 points.

Inrnthe free skating event, Team Hot Shivers showed a powerful program to "ThernLion King" soundtrack and ranked first with 95.52 points, winning therncompetition and the first "Gran Premio Italia" with an overall scorernof 133.91 points.

Team Shining Blades ranked second but improved their scorernsince the last competition. They got 51.10 points with theirrnfree program on the song "Adagio" by Tommaso Albinoni and earned arntotal score of 72.68 points.

Senior

In thernshort program event Team Ice on Fire skated a strong program on a mush-up ofrntwo songs: "Elizabeth" by Ashram and "Strength of thousandrnmen" from "Two Steps from Hell" soundtrack and ranked first withrn50.26 points. 

Team HotrnShivers, instead, didn't start off very well and earned only 41.77 points withrntheir short program to the song "Nelle tue mani" by Andrea Bocelli. "We had three falls that had a big influence on our score," theyrnexplained.

Duringrnthe free skating, Team Hot Shivers Senior presented a very clean and precise program to the movie "Up" soundtrack.

However, despite earning 110.07 points andrna total score of 151.84, they weren't able to overtake Team Ice on Fire whornskated a very emotional program "The tale of the red tread" and wonrnthe gold with a free skating score of 103.66 points and a total of 153.92rnpoints. 

As arnresult, Team Ice on Fire not only won the second stage but the first "GranrnPremio Italia" as well. "We are very proud of our achievement, last week we had some difficulties and we were a little worried, but this resultrngave us a lot of satisfaction".

In thisrnuncertain time, Italian teams have been very lucky to be able to compete in arnseries of different events.

"We miss the public and the cheer, but we feelrnvery lucky to be able to compete," said Team Shining Blades.

"We are veryrngrateful, we know that some teams from other countries didn't have the chancernto compete or even skate this season," Team Hot Shivers added. 

"Thisrnyear has been unpredictable and very complicated, but these circumstances have helped us grow and learn how to face difficulties together," said Team Icernon Fire. "We all hope that next season will be as normal as possible".
