Salzburg 2026: Austria enters a new dimension

For the first time, the senior World Synchronized Skating Championships will be held in Austria. On April 10 and 11, 2026, Salzburg will host the biggest senior event of the season. Austria is already well known to synchronized skating teams through the Mozart Cup, long established on the international scene, but staging senior Worlds marks a new step.

The event will take place at the Salzburgarena, inside the city’s exhibition center. The venue lists a capacity of up to 5,900 spectators. It regularly hosts large-scale public events, making it a venue already used to major occasions. For Worlds, that points to an indoor arena that is compact and well suited to an international synchronized skating event.

Colibris Vienna, first time at Worlds

Austria’s entered team, Colibris Vienna Senior, adds another layer to this edition. Listed in the official Salzburg 2026 field, it will represent the host country at the first senior Worlds ever staged in Austria. For Austrian synchronized skating, that matters. It links a first-time event with a team that is itself very new.

Colibris Vienna Senior was created in late 2024 and truly began its first senior season this winter. The coaching staff includes Kristen Loritz, a former Nexxice skater, alongside Sabine Konrath and Susanna Konrath.
The team’s first competition in the senior category came in mid-December 2025 at the Austrian National Championships. The ISU team profile lists the team in Vienna, representing ISCA Ice Skating Club Austria, with a roster of 20 skaters.

Austria’s recent history also shows growing visibility in international synchronized skating. The country hosted the 2022 World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Innsbruck, and Colibris Vienna Junior represented Austria at recent Junior Worlds, finishing 17th in 2023, 16th in 2024 and 18th in 2025.

Salzburg 2026 therefore fits into a broader trajectory: that of a country becoming more visible both in hosting and in international representation, and now seeing its senior team skate at home while welcoming Worlds.
