About 40 synchro teams competed this weekend in Helsinki, the Finnish capital. After a year of waiting due to the Covid pandemic, the competitive atmosphere was there, and the skaters were eager to skate in front of an audience again.
The entire ice rink rejoiced along with the skaters when this competition with 39 teams was finally allowed to take place on Saturday. One of the happiest was Mirjami Penttinen, the coach of Team Unique (HSK) and Team Mystique (HSK): “I have secretly hoped for the last 21 years that both my teams would be winners in the same competition. Now it came true”. Team Finettes (HTK) won the Novice competition on Saturday. The second group of Novices will skate on Sunday.
The synchronized skating audience of Metro-Areena in Espoo, Finland, received a wonderful reward for their patience as six skilled teams presented their stunning short programs after a long break. This time, the best team was Team Paradise, from Russia, which opened this season’s winning scores with 75.39 points.
