Three national competitions, four interclubs and one international event. The Finnish Skating Association recently published the dates of the synchronized skating events for the upcoming season.
The synchronized skating season will start in Espoo with the Finlandia Trophy held in mid-October. During this competition, the Senior teams will only compete with their short program.
Three national competitions are then scheduled. The ISU Advanced Novices, Juniors and Seniors teams will first travel to Tampere in early November for the first qualifications. Then, in the middle of December, the teams will return to Espoo for the second stage of the qualifications. The Finnish national championship will be held at the end of February 2021 in the city of Helsinki.
The first will take place in the city of Jyväskylä at the end of November. The second event will be held in Espoo in early February and will also serve as the final qualification for the junior teams at the 2021 World Championships. The third competition and the final will take place in Vantaa and Kouvola respectively in March.
With the announcement of their 2020-2021 calendar, Finland is taking a further step towards planning events for the upcoming season. The pandemic indeed seems to be under control in the country. Despite an increase in people tested, public health in Finland reports that five patients were receiving treatment at the hospital and only one person was in intensive care.
Synchronized skating athletes practise actually with full teams. Skaters must not wear masks, but gloves and must apply hygiene rules. However, if a skater feels sick or got symptoms, he/she is not allowed to go to training or participate in team activities and must inform the health care immediately.
