In good shape, Les Suprêmes struck gold after short programs

The Winterfest event is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated events in Canadian synchro. Held annually in the greater Toronto area, this year the CAA Centre in Brampton played host to over 100 synchronized skating teams from across Canada.
The event kicked off with the Intermediate first skate.
Golding Ice of St. Eustache, Quebec claimed the top spot with 37.57 points. Second spot belonged to Nexxice from Burlington, who sit far back of the lead as a result of missing several key technical calls. They have 32.53 and look to gain momentum as the reigning Canadian champions.
Third place was taken by Evolution from Charlesbourg, who skated a fast and powerful performance to score 32.01. The Intermediate category will be the first event of the day on Saturday and medals will be awarded that night.

Next up was the Novice free program one.
Event hosts, Gold Ice from Brampton took too spot with their creative “Monsters under the Bed” theme, earning 31.57 in a traditionally Quebec dominated category. Second spot went to Golding Ice, as they wowed the audience with their unique costumes and fast skating. They scored 31.55 and are right in the mix for a gold medal.
Third place was Nexxice skating to a fun rendition of “Ragtime”. They are also in the mix with 31.31 points. 4th through 8th place are separated by only 5 points, so the final performance Saturday will be a showdown not to be missed!

As anticipation built in the CAA Centre, the Junior event began. At Winterfest, the top 2 Junior teams will be selected to represent Canada at the ISU World Junior Championships being held in March.
Nexxice came out strong as the first team on the ice, setting a precedent with a score of 65.83. Les Suprêmes took second spot heading into the free with 64.91, and Nova trails behind in third with 51.34. Nine Junior teams from the USA and Canada are competing in this division.

The night concluded with the much anticipated Senior category.
Les Suprêmes did not disappoint in their return to Winterfest (their first appearance since 2015). They took too spot with 78.20 and will be the last senior team to skate on Saturday.
Nova took second with 77.52 points, still riding the momentum from their breakthrough season last year. Nexxice trails behind with 74.04 and some room for improvement heading into the free program.
