Competition season 2019-2020 is about to start in Russia. On 2-3 November, the First Stage of the Russian Cup will take place in Moscow. Teams are ready with both programs and they all are looking forward to presenting them. Today we are going to explain how does the competition season work in Russia.

Lots of competitions of different levels are held in Russia during the season. The athletes can show their professionalism and please the audience. A session usually starts with small events in the sports clubs. Sometimes it is just a performance, sometimes it is a competition.

By such events, teams can assess their level of preparation and understand the mistakes, which have to be fixed. The next step is regional championships, where the teams from the same region compete.

If you ask any member of any Russian team what competition they find the most difficult, the skater or even the coach will undoubtedly mention the National Championship! Yes, Championship of Russia is the most important event of the season, because the results define the national team of Russia for the Worlds.

Two best Senior and two best Junior teams get the right to defend the honor of the country at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championship. That is why it is a very nervous event, where you truly understand that you have no right to mistake.

How do Russian teams qualify for Nationals?
However, it is necessary to qualify for the Russian Championships, overcoming stiff competition.

There are 3 Stages of the Russian Cup, where teams should perform to take part in Nationals. Each category (Senior, Junior, Novice), has its own requirements:

    - Novice team should take 1-4 place at the official interregional competitions.

    - Junior teams should take 1-4 place at one of the Stages.

    - Senior teams should just participate in at least one Stage of the Russian Cup.

And the teams confidently overcome any difficulties. What does help them? Of course, the desire to defend the honor of their country. But there is another so important factor: the enormous love and support of spectators!

Yes, figure skating is, definitely, one of the most favorite sports of Russians. By the number of fans and supporters, it can probably compete with football and hockey. Stands of the ice rinks are usually full of spectators! Unfortunately, synchronized skating is still not as popular as other disciplines of ice skating.

However, we all do our best to improve it!
