2019 Junior Worlds: Let’s present the teams!

A total of 18 countries will be represented, the five top countries will present two teams. /Credits: Ville Vairinen

The ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships will be held in Neuchatel (SUI) this Friday and Saturday. 23 teams representing 18 countries will be competing. While some have become unavoidable in the synchro world, others will deserve our full attention. Overview of the competitors. 


TEAM AUSTRALIA
Iceskateers Elite

It is at the other end of the planet, in Brisbane, that the 20 skaters of the Iceskateers Elite practice. Coached by Hayley Marcovich, they were crowned Australian champions in early December in Sydney.

TEAM CANADA 1
Nexxice Junior

Coached by Trish Perdue-Mills, the team from Burlington, Ontario, will offer two very different programs. The short "Are you going to be my girl" Jet is very energetic, while the free program, on the theme of the circus, will present very creative elements.

TEAM CANADA 2
Les Suprêmes Junior

Reigning Canadian champions, Les Suprêmes Junior from Saint-Léonard are coached by Marilyn Langlois and Pascal Denis. Skating to "I feel good", and Witches (free program), the team will try to win a medal this year. The team practices 16 hours a week.

TEAM CROATIA
Zagreb Snowflakes

Second World Championship for the Croatian Zagreb Snowflakes. The team of Ozana Mikjkovic and Natasa Bahat skates to Chickadee's "Ooh La La" for the short program and recreate the Elvis Presley's atmosphere in the free program.

TEAM CZECH REPUBLIC
Team Darlings

Fifteen girls and two boys composed this team from Brno in the Czech Republic. Triple national champion, the team finished 3rd at the Winter Cup and 9th at the Mozart Cup.

TEAM SPAIN
Team Mirum

Representing Spain, Team Mirum will present two colourful programs. Trained by former Team Paradise (RUS) captain Elya Matveeva, Spanish athletes will be skating in a new light this year.

TEAM FINLAND 1
Dream Edges

The new stars of Finland will be in Neuchâtel. National champion in 2018 and 2019, this team which was formed just six years ago in Kaarina, Finland, will compete at its second World Championships.

TEAM FINLAND 2
Team Fintastic

This team from Helsinki has never missed a Junior World Championship. Vice World Junior Champions 2017 in Canada, the Finnish athletes will present their powerful programs this weekend in Switzerland.

TEAM FRANCE
Team Jeanne d'Arc

Four times national champions, the team of Anne-Sophie Druet will represent France. Team Jeanne d'Arc, named so because they come from Rouen, has the particularity to have four male skaters in the team.

TEAM GREAT BRITAIN
Icicles

The reigning British champions will face international teams for the third time this season. They finished fourth at the Lumière Cup and won a silver medal at the Trophy d'Ecosse.

TEAM GERMANY
Team Berlin Juniors

Coached this season by Marco Derpa and Deseree Graichen, Team Berlin Juniors skaters (German champions) are determined to climb up the World Rankings. They will present a free program on the theme of Aladdin.

TEAM HUNGARY
Team Magic

First participation for Team Magic who is a very young team (formed in 2017). The athletes are coached by Barbara and Michael Zenezini in Budapest.

TEAM ITALY
Hot Shivers

We don't need to present them a lot, Hot Shivers from Milan have become very known in the world of synchronized skating. Coached by Andrea Gilardi, the athletes skate to an Italian Mambo for the short program and tp Romeo and Juliet for the free program.

TEAM NETHERLANDS
Team Illuminettes

The Netherlands make their first appearance at the Junior World Championship. And Team Illuminettes is the best ambassador this year with two very thematic programs: "Dear future husband" for the short, and "Fantastic Beast" for the free.

TEAM POLAND
Ice Fire Junior

Coached by Agnieszka Filipowicz & Marcin Miedlarz, Ice Fire Junior athletes compete in their second Junior World Championships. After an intense season of hard work, they will compete with the colours of Poland.

TEAM RUSSIA 1
Junost

Double Junior World Champions, team Junost will try to keep the title in Neuchâtel. After a successful season of lining up victories, the athletes led by Elena Moshnova and Natalia Sannikova will present their new programs.

Crystal Ice

The 19 skaters of the Crystal Ice team come from Moscow, Russia. The team that finished third last year trained 18 hours a week to offer the best performances possible this weekend.

TEAM SWITZERLAND
Cool Dreams Junior

The skaters of the Swiss team welcome us to their country with two very different programs. The short program will be skated to African rhythms, while the free program will celebrate the Oscars.

Team Spirit

A mechanical universe for the short program, and a dragon battle for the free program... Team Spirit will take the audience into two very different atmospheres. Junior champions of Sweden, will the team reach the top 8 this year?

TEAM SWEDEN 2
Team Seaside

Crowned vice-champion of Sweden in the Junior division, Team Seaside from Tjörn will have everything to prove in Neuchâtel since it is his first world championships. The team skates this season to latino rhythms for the short program and turns into superheroes for the free program.

TEAM TURKEY
Golden Roses

Representing Turkey, and more specifically the city of Ankara, the Golden Roses team has been surrounded this season with Russian expertise to create its programs. Missing the international competitions, many synchro fans will be able to discover them for the first time this season.

TEAM USA 1
Skyliners

Will the charm of the Americans reach the judges of Neuchâtel? The Skyliners team is ready to keep their silver medal won last season at the Zagreb Worlds. They will try to go back home with the gold.

Starlights

This is one of the surprises of this World Championship. Newly crowned US vice-champions, the Illinois Starlights team will compete this season at the Junior Worlds.
