It has been an exciting two days in Turku, Finland this weekend. The winners of the Finnish first qualifications in the Junior and the Senior categories are now settled after the free program competition. Dream Edges is the gold medalist in the Junior category and Marigold Ice Unity brought the victory home in the Senior category.

Juniors competition

The big positive surprise in the competition is the winner of the Juniors category; Dream Edges, who earned 97,18 points in the free program “Escape from the Mental Asylum”. It´s been about ten years since a non-Helsinki team has won a national competition in the category. Dream Edges performed their free program with an incredible interpretation and fascinated the audience with creepy choreography details and difficult movements.

With the free program, Team Fintastic rose from fourth place to the second and earned 93,65 points. The silver medalists performed a joyful free program “City of Stars” with music from “La La Land”. Musketeers had an unfortunate fall in the intersection and followed behind with 92,20 points. After the two performances, the team finished at the 3rd place.

This year´s theme for Musketeers is “Voodoo Dolls” and the choreography was well planned with imaginative details.

Team Mystique made a couple of small mistakes and one fall and was placed fourth with 87,21 points. The dress, music, and choreography were a well-working whole in the program “The Journey”.

Seniors competition

The winner of the Seniors category in the Finnish first qualifications is Marigold Ice Unity. The team earned 121,18 points with their free program “Splash”. The team had one fall but skated a strong program with powerful movements and lifts. The program was completed with water-like choreography and a beautiful ocean inspired dress.

Rockettes came second with the points 119,61 in the free program “2 Sides of Her”. Their skating skills and the intense music made a good combo and with some improvements, the program will look even better.

Team Unique followed close behind with 118,18 points in the free program. The team performed a confident program “Every Inch of You” where some of the team´s strengths; power, femininity, and strong involvement, were highlighted.

The new team Lumineers left a positive impression after their performance with their free program “Nordic Noir”. The team had one fall but otherwise, the skaters from two different clubs performed already a strong program.
