Synchro skating is growing in Italy

The 4th Italian National Competition took place this weekend, with more and more Italian teams attending synchro events!

Last Sunday, together with the National Championships, the 4th Italian National Competition took place. The competition was open to all Non-ISU and Novice divisions and was held in Aosta.

The event was a success, new teams debuted, and a total of 29 teams and nearly 500 athletes participated.

Juvenile
In the Juvenile division, 8 teams competed, and for 5 of them, this was the first competition ever!

Team Ice Sparkles won the competition with a score of 27.34 points. They performed a cheerful and funny program on "Tu vò fà l'americano" and "Mambo Italiano" by Sophia Loren.

In the second place, Team Ice Breakers performed a joyful "Cirque du Solei" themed program and earned 26.81 points.

With a magical performance to the song "Le mille bolle blu" by Mina, Olimpia Team earned 26.00 points and got in third place. "We are really happy with our performance, this was our first competition as a team, and we are very proud of our results," they said.

In fourth place, Team Ice Diamonds from Chiavenna showed a program to "The Princess and the Frog" soundtrack and obtained a total score of 20.29 points. "This was the first competition for our juvenile team in an unknown rink, the pandemic had a big impact on our preparation because often some athletes were in quarantine, but we are happy with our achievements," they explained.

Team Crazy Splinters ranked fifth, earning 18.46 points. They skated on a mashup of the last TikTok's trends and made everyone dance on the stands.

Not far behind, Team Frost Fairies skated on "Nightmare before Christmas" and got in sixth place with 18.38 points. This was the first competition for both the teams, who were super enthusiastic about competing finally.

And finally, Team Ladybirds ranked seventh with 18.30 points, and Team Flying Angles ranked eighth with a score of 15.79 points.

Mixed Age
Despite two falls, Olimpia Team from Como won first place. They performed a strong and emotional program to the song "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed and managed to earn a total score of 57.62 points. "Despite the two falls, we are happy with our performance; now we will work even harder for the MixedAge Trophy in Basel" they said.

Skating on a dark version of "Can't help falling in love" by Elvis, Team Frost Fairies ranked second with 50.84 points, improving their score of 7 points since the last competition. "With our home rink closed, these last two years have been quite hard, but we are happy of our achievements and that our club is growing," they said.

In third place, Team Snowflakes from Turin skated in a green dress and earned 45.52 points.

Wearing shiny black dresses, Team Shining Blades got fourth place with 43.76 points, while Team Flying Angels from Rome ranked fifth with 43.13 points.

In sixth place, Team Crazy Splinters performed a creative program on the movie "Cruella" soundtrack and obtained 37.53 points. "With our program, we want to show the different sides of the character of the movie's protagonist Ella," they explained.

A new team from Aosta, Team Dragonflies, ranked seventh with a score of 31.47 points, they skated on a medley of The Queen's songs. "We are the first synchro team of our club. We were super enthusiast about competing together for the first time" they said.

Team Ladybirds performed an Aladdin-themed program and got 8th place with a score of 28.42 points.

And last, but not least, Team Shiny Ice ranked ninth with 24.93 points. This team is the first-ever synchro team from Brunico and was created two years ago, just before the pandemic started. "This was our first ever competition because, due to the high number of positives cases in our region, we had to withdraw from all the previous competition of this season" they explained.

Junior B
Only three teams competed in the Junior B division.

Team Ice Breakers got first place. They performed a strong program on the song "Iron" by Woodkid and earned 41.51 points.

Less than one point behind, Olimpia Team ranked second with a total score of 40.94. They showed a delicate performance on the songs "Adiemus" by Karl Jenkins and "Never give up on your dreams" by Thomas Bergersen.

Team Ice on Fire skated their program called "Fire on Fire" inspired to the Cirque due Soleil. They earned a total of 39.95 points and got in third place.

Basic Novice
As always, the scores in the Basic Novice division were very tight, with only seven points between the first and the seventh ranked.

Team Ice Sparkles won the gold with a score of 37.48 points. They skated a fun and upbeat program to a medley of Madonna's songs.

Team Ladybirds finished second with a Charleston performance, earning 35.06 points.

Team Ice on Fire showed a program called "Street Artist" to the movie "Micmacs à Tire Larigot" soundtrack and got third place with a total score of 34.83.

In fourth place, Team Ice Diamonds performed on the movie "Aladdin" soundtrack and obtained a score of 33.33 points.

Olimpia Team ranked in fifth place. They skated to a magical and fun "Aladdin" themed program and got 31.60 points.

Not far behind, Team Shining Blades ranked sixth with 31.46 points.

Finally, Team Ice Angels earned 30.72 points and ranked seventh. They skated on "Modern Times" soundtrack by Charlie Chaplin.

Advanced Novice
In the Advanced Novice division, Team Hot Shivers won the gold medal. They performed a clean and cheerful program to the movie "Luca" soundtrack and got a total score of 68.84 points.

With their program called "The Cunning Fox", Team Ladybirds ranked second with a total of 58.63 points.

The next event in the Italian competition season will be the Youth National Championships at the end of the month.
