About 40 synchro teams competed this weekend in Helsinki, the Finnish capital. After a year of waiting due to the Covid pandemic, the competitive atmosphere was there, and the skaters were eager to skate in front of an audience again.

Senior Free Program
Double win for Team Unique who kept the first place won after the short programs. Skating to "A Star Is Born", the musical romantic film with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, the team totally seduced the judges and the public with a great performance. Even though the team had the 2nd best score of the day - 135.81 points (after the Helsinki Rockettes), they got the best total score of 211.24 and finished with the gold.

The Helsinki Rockettes presented their new free program "Digital Twin", a radically different performance than their short program and it really shows the range of skills of this team. With a wide variety of music, the Rockettes transported the audience into the world of technology. They achieved the highest score of the competition (139.12) and finished 2nd, just one point behind Team Unique.

Marigold IceUnity confidently skated their new program "From Darkness to Light", a musical build-up with well-executed elements. In yellow and black costumes, the team received 135.18 points, finishing with 207.80 overall, which secured third place.

It doesn't seem like Dream Edges Senior is a new team, as the fluidity and harmony of their skating were present on the ice Sunday evening. Their program "Romance", which tells a love story between two women, was skated with intelligence and delicacy. The team is getting closer and closer to the top of the ranking and finished 4th with 199.17 points.

Lumineers skated to "Chernobyl", their new free program that depicts history's most devastating nuclear accident. The team retold very well this tragic event on the ice, wearing gray costumes. They earned 128.02 for their program and 190.95 overall.

Junior Free Program
The junior competition ended with tears of joy... Those of Team Mystique who managed to keep their leadership position! It had been two years since this team had won a national qualification. On Sunday, Team Mystique unveiled their new program, "The Trickery game", and scored 113.25 points for a total of 177.85.

Third after the short programs on Saturday, the Musketeers finally won the silver medal in Helsinki. So the 2021-22 season looks good for the "Magic Carpet", which has been improved in the last months after its first presentation last year. The program is clean, very creative and full of exciting elements, giving 108.94 points and 170.01 overall.

Valley Bay Synchro can be proud of its performance. On Sunday, the team came back from 4th to finish at 3rd place (106.49 / total: 167.25), by presenting its version of Carmen. The skaters added a charismatic and original touch to this very well-known piece, especially with a very adapted interpretation and fast steps.

After a very powerful short program, the free program was more complicated than expected for Dream Edges Junior. After a very nice start of the programme with creative acrobatics, the team had several falls (-3.00 deductions). Their program "Alchemy" gave them a total score of 91.74.

It was a weekend to forget for Team Fintastic. The team maintained their 5th place earned after the short program, but had a lot of falls on Sunday and finished 7th in the free program competition with a score of 148.07.

More generally, the junior competition was very intense and presented some very good and interesting programs. For sure, the next few weeks will give the teams the opportunity to improve these performances and thus avoid unfortunate falls (especially in intersections) and mistakes.

Novice - group 2
After the first group (consisting of 10 teams) in the Novice category skated on Saturday, nine teams took part in Sunday's event.

This time Valley Bay Synchronics won the gold medal with an excellent total score of 81.41 points. This is a great result for this Espoo team skating this year to "Sinfonian synty".

Despite two falls, Team Dynamique from Helsinki finished in second place (77.30) after their performance to "The Story of Harley Quinn".

CrystalBlades was the third on the podium with their "Rock Tour" program, which brought them 70.66 points.

The next qualifying competition in Finland for the ISU teams will take place in just over a month.
