Leon Lurje Trophy: Team Paradise and Crystal Ice Junior leading after short programs

Leon Lurje Trophy, which is one of four competitions in the ISU Challenger Series, is arranged in Gothenburg, Sweden this weekend. Seniors and Juniors performed their short programs on Friday. Team Paradise is leading in Seniors and Crystal Ice Junior holds the first place in Juniors.

Russia and Finland will battle for gold
Team Paradise from Russia is leading the Seniors’ competition after short programs. Their performance was accurate and gave them 81.53 points. They got a high component score from all judges: at least 9.00 for each component.

Team Unique from Finland is not far behind. Their short program gave them 80.03 points, which is their season’s best score. The situation is tight and anything can still happen in free skating. Either of the teams has to succeed in order to win.

The third team, Nexxice from Canada earned 74.51 points, even they did not reach the highest level in features of Move Element. They are followed by Crystal Ice Senior from Russia by only 0.16 points, so no medals were awarded yet.

Lumineers from Finland got 70.92 after a clean short program and the skaters seemed really pleased with the result. The Canadian team Nova followed at the 6th place with a score of 68.31.

Then, come the teams from the United States. Miami University and Crystallettes delivered good performances on Friday evening and are separated only by 1 point.

The Italian team Hot Shivers presented a program full of grace and emotions and placed 9th for the moment (53.23). Team Berlin 1 skaters presented their hip-hop program that brought them 49.91.

Team Passion from Hungary and Ice Storms from Australia completed the Senior rankings.

Juniors got scores as high as Seniors
In Juniors’ category Russian teams dominated the short program competition. Crystal Ice Junior skated faultlessly and earned 74.58 points and is currently in first place. Team Sunrise 1, also from Russia, took second place with 72.57 points. Both teams reached the highest levels in their elements.

Team Fintastic from Finland is holding the third position after short programs with 66.19 points. They skated with skill but had a fall just before Moves Element which affected negatively on their score.

Fifteen teams are competing this weekend in this division. 


The competitions will continue on Saturday with free skating competitions. In addition, Advanced Novices will perform their programs. The Novices’ competition is in two parts and the programs will be shown again on Sunday.
